What is a vaccine?

A vaccine is a type of medicine that trains the body’s immune system so that it can fight a disease it has not come into contact with before. Vaccines are designed to prevent disease, rather than treat a disease once you have caught it.


Child Immunisations

At the practice we follow the NHS children’s vaccination schedule. To view this on their website, please click here.

One of the most important child immunisations is the MMR vaccine. This protects children from Measles, Mumps and Rubella. The first dose of this vaccination is given to children from their 1st birthday. The second dose is given from the age of 3years4months. Please see further information about the MMR below.

Adult Vaccinations

Influenza

The flu vaccine is an annual/seasonal vaccine, meaning it is given every year to the eligible population.

Shingles

The shingles vaccine comes in 2 doses and you only need this once in your lifetime.

Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV)

The RSV vaccine is a new NHS vaccination provided to those aged 75-79 and other eligible populations such as pregnant women.
